Fathers Bring Up
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010Fathers Bring Up vs. 4
In the first post under the title of “Fathers Man Up”, we looked at the importance of fathers taking responsibility for raising their sons and daughters in the ways of the Lord. In the second post, I wrote about how the scripture admonishes us as fathers to not provoke our children unto wrath.
In this third post, I want to look at the rest of the admonition found in Ephesians 6:4. God’s call for fathers is to be proactive in your efforts to bring your children up in the ways of the Lord. This is no small “weekend investment”, as many fathers may think, but will require you to invest your life into your children which will produce great returns.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go and when there are old they will not depart from it.
First, God has called upon us to nurture our sons and daughters.

Fathers Provoke Not
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010Fathers Provoke Not
Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers provoke not your children unto wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
First, through sins of commission, which include sins that a father commits against his children. These may be things such as provoking through an angry spirit when James 1 says the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God, or neglect of their physical needs when Scripture teaches us that those who don’t provide for their own are worse than infidels. Also, cruelty and abuse physically, sexually or emotionally of which the Scripture teaches that if one offends a little one it were better for him to tie a millstone about his neck and jump into the sea. Other sins committed could be listed such as sarcasm, ridicule, and favoritism which can be very destructive to any child…

Fathers Man Up
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010As the father of ten children including 5 sons and 5 daughters I thought it appropriate to write on the desperate need of the current generation of children for Christian Fathers to MAN UP! This is not because I am an expert, rather a burden for Christian men around the World to have a revival in their hearts regarding the awesome blessing and responsibility of raising a Godly generation.
Fathers Must Take Responsibility-Ephesians 6:4
We must Man up and take our responsibility. For far too long fathers have been content to stand on the side lines and let the mothers do most of the parenting of our children.
We have many self justifying excuses of why we don’t value the role of father as much as we should. We may even mentally think we are doing the best possible job as a Dad. But compared to the investment of resources of time and money spent pursuing a quality education, career advancement, or prominence in the church and community, the amount most Dads spend in the pursuit of raising a Godly generation pales in comparison.
Christian brothers, it is time for us to recognize that the greatest resource we have available to us for the advancement of the Kingdom of God is our Children being brought up in the home for the Glory of God. We must stop being hypocrites in the home willing to let mom do the child rearing and get busy investing in our children from the Lord. I promise the return will be great!
Our excuses may be noble, “busy with work”, “trying to provide for the family’s needs”, “working extra for the children’s college fund” etc. But no matter how good the excuse none of them remove the commandment of the Lord: YE FATHERS!

Missions Conference 2010
Thursday, February 4th, 2010We have just finished our World Missions Conference at Westside Baptist Church. God blessed in an amazing way through the testimony of two church planters from Washington, and three foreign missionaries going to Cambodia, Uganda, and Turkey.
Dr. Bob McQuery was our keynote speaker and God used him in a powerful way in the minds and hearts of our church family as well as this preacher. This was his first time to Westside and I hope it will not be his last. He is a new missionary to Turkey, but not new to the ministry serving in pastoral ministry both as an Associate, Senior Pastor, and VP of Northland Baptist Bible College. Please pray for he and his wife as they set out to start a new ministry in the same land which many of the churches mentioned in the NT once thrived and today there is 99.8% Muslim.
Tom Tract, missionary to Uganda, Africa preached on Saturday evening where we were all challenged to remember that the souls we are seeking to reach with the Gospel are truly our relatives all coming from the same earthly father Noah. May we never loose our passion for the lost in the World all around us. Please pray for the Tract family as they set sail on February 14th, for Africa.
I had the privilege to bring the Conference to a close with a challenge from Isaiah 61 regarding God’s call upon our lives to take the message of the Gospel to the uttermost part of the earth so that those in bondage may be set free from the chains of sin.
As we begin the year 2010 may we remember that Missions is important because missions is the heart of God.
